Serves sits down with P.A.C.K. Founder, Malena Stone

This is a picture from Spring of 2014. My 3 boys and I were packing 50 bags of food each week in our kitchen. At the time, I was just wanted them to grow up to be givers…to feel like helping others in our community was just a normal part of life for them.

P.A.C.K. (People of Action Caring for Kids) emerged over the next few months with 2 goals: to help local kids in need and to provide a child-friendly serving venue so kids and families could serve our community together.

Our group (comprised of community volunteers of all ages and walks of life) packed and delivered over 6,100 bags of weekend food to children in need, provided hundreds of bags of school supplies, sent out hundreds of busy bags and lunch bags to kids and families in local hospitals and staying at the Ronald McDonald house, and provided clothes/toiletries to children entering foster care.

6,100 bags of food were delivered by sports teams, church youth groups, local businesses, retired folks, kids, and a lot of sweat and love.

Last school year, P.A.C.K. delivered more than 32,000 bags of food to children in 6 local schools and more than 10 community programs. We are currently gearing up for another school year, and dreaming of feeding more kids and inspiring more teachers to keep going! When a teacher sees us delivering food in their school or delivering school supplies, it reminds them that they are not alone. Their community, young and old are standing with them and cheering them on. It can seem overwhelming to consider the needs of the children in our community, but it is empowering to know that together we can make a difference one bag at a time. ”
